ARTISTS STATEMENT:

In the style of American Realism, the subject matter or environment of
my work is portrayed in as straightforward a manner as possible.
Without idealizing the world we live in and without following the rules
of formal theory I hope to express that the true beauty and magic in
life is in how it exists. The wonder of life is in its entirety and if we
edit or revise our existence or nature, we deny the truth of who we
are.

Differing from the Realists at the turn of the 20th century, I don’t
believe this realism is Romantic but the awe and wonder of how life
and our existence transcends the tragic, mundane or ordinary to the
extraordinary.

I have worked in different mediums. In the last couple of years I have
chosen to work in oil painting to more clearly articulate what I see and
experience in the world and life as I travel through it. When I paint
these moments in place and time, I realize every aspect of the painting
is a metaphor of that experience, right down to the stroke of the
brush, the movement of paint and the expressed use of color.

What I like best about this experience is that I have to be completely
present to make the painting work. My greatest desire is that the
viewer is called to do the same thing and feel the vibrancy, beauty and
unambiguousness of the here and now.
