| Artist Statement When I create a painting I strive to capture what I see as most beautiful about the subject. Whether it’ s a portrait, a still life, or a landscape, I search for its beauty. I like everything in a painting to help reinforce that same goal. Whether it’s a detail or a background element, everything must illuminate the beauty of the subject and the story. Life is filled with gifts and precious moments. Plenty that we take for granted. I like to capture these moments and make the viewer feel grateful. I feel that an artist’s developed eye sees beauty in simple things easier than the common person and it is my job to make it easy for everyone to see. A subtle simmer of light on a rock, a shy expression on a child’s face, and a crooked branch on a tree, all of these I find worthy of a smile. Even if it is for a few seconds, a simple smile is good enough. At the age of 13, I pronounced myself as a lifelong student of art. Since then I have devoted my life to the arts. I find it fascinating and at the same time comforting to be able to create whatever is on my mind. I think it takes years of education and proper training to be able to fluently express your creativity. Every day I try to learn something new to express myself with more confidence. About Stan I was born in Odessa, Ukraine and came to America at the age of six. In the summer of 2003, I got an internship at Sony Online Entertainment to work on the upcoming video game, Everquest II. Shortly after, I began studying at the Watts Atelier of the Arts in Encinitas, California. I wrote an article on animation for Imagine Magazine at Johns Hopkins University and created a five minute animated short film, "A Game of Pool", which featured on all American Airlines flights in September through December of 2004. After attending the Watts Atelier for many years, my focus shifted from animation to fine art painting. In 2007 I became a teacher at the Watts Atelier of the Arts and have taught classes on topics such as laying in the figure, portrait drawing and painting from photographs, portrait fundamentals, figure quick-sketch, oil painting essentials, painterly drawing, and introduction to tonal drawing. Currently, my paintings hang in England, Scotland, and several galleries around the United States. |
